Just what I was looking for
Written by Jim Bock on Jul 22nd 2026

Back in 2006, I was introduced to the Juan Lopez Epicure No. 1 Toro by Altadis. It, to date, had been one of my most cherished cigars. I bought two boxes and 20 years later, I only have 8 left. Sadly, they are no longer made. Enter Atlantic Cigar and their Replacements. For whatever reason, they decided to make a clone of these amazing cigars that everyone else forgot. I smoked one back-to-back with one of my original JLs. I was absolutely thrilled with the experience. The cigar is very well constructed, looks beautiful, and had an easy draw with just a hint of resistance. The burn was extremely consistent and needed no corrections throughout the smoking session. While there were definitely some differences between the Replacement and the JL, they were subtle. The Replacement packed a delightful leathery punch, thick smoke, and a long pleasurable smoke that evokes the spirit of the JL. Well done Atlantic... And at 3 bucks a stick! This will be a regular in my humidor moving forward!

Fair

The cigars burned evenly. Medium to full flavored. You can tell it was a good meal Nicaraguan tobacco. Good for the price, but I consider the quality fair..
