Casa Magna Colorado Gran Toro
Some cigars win awards. Others become legends. Casa Magna Colorado managed to do both. Created by Manuel Quesada and Nestor Plasencia, this Nicaraguan puro made one hell of an entrance when it earned Cigar Aficionado’s 2008 Cigar of the Year. Blending Nicaraguan tobaccos from Estelí and Jalapa, the 94-rated Casa Magna Colorado delivers a rich, medium-to-full-bodied profile packed with coffee, cedar, earth, pepper, nuts, and natural sweetness.
More than 15 years after taking home Cigar of the Year honors, Casa Magna Colorado still deserves a spot in the humidor. Bold without being a bully and complex without trying too hard, it delivers the kind of classic Nicaraguan flavor that keeps you coming back. Whether you’re revisiting an old favorite or somehow haven’t smoked one yet, grab a few Casa Magna Colorados and see why this modern classic earned its reputation the hard way.
I discovered this by trying one from a local shop at random. Wow! Very impressed with the flavor and great construction. Draw and burn were perfect. This is a what I call a “sleeper” cigar - one that is very reasonably priced, yet has the flavor and construction to compete with - or exceed - other cigars that cost far more. I keep some of these in my humidor regularly.
I tried this cigar last year after picking one up at a local smoke shop. I love this cigar! I think the Casa Magna line is a bit under the radar. Every one I’ve tried has been enjoyable. Good flavor, construction, burn, and draw. I keep several of these in my humidor and in rotation for variety.
