Patina Habano Cigars by Mombacho

New from Mombacho Cigars S.A.’s Casa Favilli factory in Grenada, Nicaragua. Patina Cigars is the creation of Mo Maali, Mombacho’s recently appointed national sales manager. The Patina cigar line is currently available in two blends a Connecticut and Habano. According to Mo Maali; “Patina is an oxidation process that, over time, produces a green film over bronze or copper,” referring to what people might be familiar with seeing on statues or buildings. “In the same spirit, our experiences in life shape our opinions, attitudes and beliefs. Just as those buildings underneath the patina retain their original character, we too as human beings will always be ourselves at our core. No matter what happens in life, always be true to yourself,” he added.

The Patina Habano uses an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua and Pennsylvania, and provides a more fuller bodied flavor profile then the Connecticut. The cigars are packaged in 16 count boxes and available in four popular sizes.

These arrived back mid year. I let it rest the obligatory 2 weeks in the humidor before sparking one. At the outset, I was disappointed and felt that maybe a mistake had been made in purchasing this cigar. I quickly put that thought aside knowing that time is a cigars friend....in most cases. Well, that was true for this cigar. Nearly 5 months later, I lit up my second and the difference was remarkable. Profile, ever changing, baking spices, earth, fruit notes, peanut, etc. etc. dancing in and out between the thirds. Construction was spot on....slow burn, good ash. I'm pleased to have these in the humidor and the price point makes grabbing a single or a box a no brainer.
