My Father #4 Lancero Cigars

You probably won't find a more highly acclaimed cigar factory in the world, at this moment. My Father cigar's origins go back to Don "Pepin" Garcia and his Cuban cigar heritage. He originally set up shop in Miami at his El Rey de Los Habanos factory, but expansion and the introduction of his son Jaime to the business required they move to a beautiful new facility in Estelí, Nicaragua.

The eponymous My Father cigar is the flagship cigar of Garcia's operation, blended by Jamie in honor of his father. One of the most revered cigars being produced today, the powerhouse My Father is blended to have a balanced and rich flavor with just right amount of power (which for the family Garcia’s is more than for other cigar families).

Made with Cuban seed wrapper grown in Ecuador by the Oliva Tobacco Co., which historically produces the best wrapper in the business, the My Father is blended with rich Nicaraguan binder & filler tobaccos. Expect the cigar to start with the signature heavy spice upfront before balancing out with earth, leather and an interesting Nicaraguan sweetness, a cigar worthy to honor one of the greatest in the business today.

A pretty dang good lancero
Written by R. Clay on Feb 9th 2024

I bought a 5 pack of this lancero because I love lanceros and I like the Le Bejue 1922 from My Father. I think this lancero is in my top 10 of lanceros—more like top 6. It is a smooth smoke without being too mild. No one note jumps out at you, but it isn’t bland either. It’s subtle. I got some cream on the first third with a bit of white pepper early one that stayed with it to the end. I very light hint of leather deeper into the smoke. There is a solid oak note on the last 2/3rds. Lanceros are quickly becoming my favorite shape. The problem is some of my favorites smokes in this shape are only available in maker’s samplers boxes with various shapes, but this one and the Caldwell Long Live the King (MSIJ) are both available in boxes, and I am a fan of both of these cigars.
