Esteban Carreras Devil's Hand Maduro Sixty (6x60)
Gonzalo Puentes is the man in charge of the Esteban Carreras factory in Esteli. He was previously working for the Ministry of Agriculture in Cuba. While there, Puentes was tasked with creating improved corojo seeds. Long story short, Puentes took the best seeds from this experiment, and smuggled them out of Cuba and away from “the devil”. The devil, of course, being Fidel Castro and the communist regime.
The Devil’s Hand is a Nicaraguan puro. The cigar features dual binders from Esteli and Jalapa with a core of tobaccos from Condega. The blend is then finished with a Nicaraguan corojo maduro wrapper. The key here is that the blend uses the same wrapper as the original Devil’s Hand but this version goes through an extra fermentation. Owner Craig Cunningham describes the process as “low and slow”, so it doesn’t break down the tobacco. The result is superb. The Devil’s Hand Maduro delivers a spicier, more complex blend than its predecessor.
