Our Methodology

There are lots of opinions about what you should pay for a good cigar. Some say $10–20, others say $20 & up. But we wanted to take a more scientific approach.

To figure out how much a good cigar costs, we first turned to some of the world's most sophisticated smokers over at Cigar Aficionado to come up with a list.

How We Identified “Good Cigars”

Each year, Cigar Aficionado brings together a group of cigar experts to name the Top 25 Cigars of the Year. To make the list, a cigar has to survive several elimination rounds of blind tastings.

If a cigar makes the list, it's safe to say it's a good (if not great) cigar. To find a reliable list of good cigars, we reviewed the Top 25 Cigars of 2024.

Calculating How Much a Good Cigar Costs

To keep the answer relevant for U.S. cigar lovers, we removed the three Cuban cigars since they aren’t available here. That left us with 22 cigars on the list.

Of those, 21 cigars are under $25. The only exception was one luxury cigar priced at around $100, which would have skewed the results. After removing that outlier, we calculated the average price of the remaining 21 cigars.

How Much Is a Good Cigar?

The average price of a good cigar in 2025 is around $13.34. You can expect to pay somewhere between about $8.85 and $24 for an exceptional stogie.

If you're on a budget, there are two excellent cigars on the list for just around $10.

Brick House Churchill

A Nicaraguan cigar with an Ecuadorian wrapper, the Brick House Churchill comes in at #10 on the list of Top 25 Cigars of 2024. The Churchill is said to be a “remarkably tasty smoke” for under $10 (before taxes).

La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Chiselito Maduro

The La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Chiselito Maduro is another delicious smoke for under $10 (before taxes). Ranked #21 on 2024's list of Top Cigars, you can expect “prominent notes of toasted coconut, wet leather, raisin and dark chocolate”.

What does this mean for cigar lovers?

With an average price of $13.34 for a good cigar, and 12 of the 21 cigars we reviewed falling under $15, we can say confidently that a “good cigar” in 2025 doesn’t have to break the bank.

In fact, many of the best-rated cigars in the world fall in the $10–15 range. You have plenty of options that deliver exceptional flavor, construction, and enjoyment for under $25, especially if you know where to buy cigars online at discount prices.
