The L’Atelier Côte d'Or Cigars
Cote d’Or is the newest release from L’Atelier. This marca is extremely limited in production. Only 2,100 boxes will be manufactured. Côte d'Or, which translates roughly to “Gold Coast” made for a classic name given the translation of Pelo de Oro as “Hair of Gold”.
The naming for this project pays homage to the famed Burgundy wine-growing region in France. This region is known for growing Pinot Noir grapes, one of the most temperamental grape varietals. Pelo de Oro is also a very temperamental tobacco plant, requiring tedious amounts of hands on care and also it is extremely subjective to the environment in which it is grown. With both Pelo de Oro and Pinot Noir, the yields are low, but the resulting products are very special.
Sancti Spiritus is a hybrid of Criollo tobaccos and Pelo de Oro tobaccos. The team at L’Atelier decided to use the darker priming Sancti Spiritus wrapper. The same wrapper used on the L’Atelier Selection Spéciale vitolas. This wrapper added flavor, complexity, and worked the best in changing the filler blend to incorporate the Pelo de Oro.
The resulting profile for Côte d'Or is complex, rich and rewarding. The L’Atelier Côte d'Or's are presented in ten count boxes, these cigars will be a must for any cigar aficionado.
